Sunday AM at DD

Posted: October 7, 2012 in Opinion

Sunday mornings usually find one sleeping late, trying to recover from the work week or that bender from the night before. At least, that is how it is supposed to go.

This Sunday though finds me sipping a cup of coffee and blogging at Dunkin’ Donuts. The time being 6:00 a.m.

Why?

Well, my wife, who is this particular DD’s manager, received a call that one of her employees did not show up to open and that the person was not scheduled to show until 8:00.

My wife was texted at 5:30 and without hesitation she gets ready to head in. Unlike a lot of people my wife takes pride in her store. Besides, it would only be for two hours, then back home to bed. This is after working six days straight! Now, that number can be seven.

I love my wife dearly. There is one more loving, loyal or more beautiful. So, giving her a ride and hanging out would be no big deal. She does a lot for me and a besides I get free coffee and Munchkins.

And this how on this particular Sunday, I find myself sipping coffee, eating Munchkins, writing, and listening to the Blues on my iPhone,

Life is good.

Enough is enough

Everyone reaches their breaking point and I reached mine
the other day. For the past year I have been working part-time
delivering newspapers. Why? Well, I needed to work a second job
since my wife was out of work and the bills needed to get paid. The
hours for my full-time job were a bit odd and I needed something to
fit around this. Hence, the newspaper delivery gig. It was
certainly no dream job. The hours were early (really early)
starting at 2:30 a.m. and ending at 6:30 a.m. Now those are some
really crazy hours. Yet, if one were as desperate as I was for cash
then one may fall in. Well as I quickly learned some times money is
not always a good reason to do anything. What is more important
than keeping one’s sanity or good health? Will money help to
maintain these? Perhaps, it can help pay for a good psychiatrist or
gym membership. Other than these… No. We need to be responsible
for our own health and sanity because no one else will. Sadly most
people are looking out for themselves. So, in this case I decided
to lookout for Number 1 (me) and quit this awful job. I have no
regrets either. My performance at my day job is better and I just
feel more energized. It was a great decision. It proves that money
does not always buys happiness.

I just saw a post from CNN (http://wp.me/p4HKM-Aam) about that wacko religious group Westboro Baptist Church and how they are going to hold a protest at Elizabeth Edwards funeral! This is one for the “you have got to be sh****ng me!”category.

First of all it is extremely disrespectful to hold a protest at anyone’s funeral. How about showing some respect for the family of the departed.

If you have umbrage with some group take it to the web or someone other type of media not a funeral…

Well, wait a tick, that would require some thought and the ability to read and write, something which these nitwits do not seem to be able to do. If these people could think then they would show some respect. First of all, if one were to think logically (which these people do not) they would understand the hurt they are causing. Especially, someone like Elizabeth Edwards who endured enough humiliation because of her husband’s infidelity. Edwards stayed strong throughout this ordeal in addition to bravely fighting the cancer which would take her life.

Another thing about this Westboro Baptist group is how they believe that they are doing God’s work. Well, I have a few questions for the “reverend” of this group.

How did God convey his message to you?

Did Jesus tell you to hate gays and others?

What about the Bible teaching “love thy neighbor as thyself”?

If the “good reverend” were a man of God then he would take the Bible’s message to be one of tolerance and love, not of hate. This Westboro group just reminds one of how religion has torn nations apart and led to the vast majority of the wars fought throughout human history.

And one wonders why the number of atheists is growing and church pews are emptying. Crackpots like the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church and others of the same ilk are leading religion straight to hell with their crooked and hateful messages.

Did I just say “hell” in my last remark? Yes, I did and so what of it because this is exactly what this group is doing sending religion, Christianity in particular, to the place that it dreads the most. That is okay because seeing how the reverend of this group is him and Satan should get along just fine.
